January 9, 2009- went in to St. Vincent's for the surgery. The staff was amazing and it was really nice to have my dad around as well. Next thing I remember, I woke up and they told me that I needed to stay out of work for a week instead of 3-4 days recovery time. Apparently the endo was pretty advanced and they got most out, but wanted us to take the Lupron bc they couldn't get to all of it. PRAISE GOD though, ALL reproductive organs are in tact and they are hopefull for children!
The week was long. Sweet friends helped us through it- especially my momma! I hit a very low point during this week. I truly thought that I would be closer to God than ever, but He felt so far away. I spoke to Nick about it- the best accountability partner around- and he made a very good point. He explained that when you take drugs like pain killers, it makes everything dull and makes you feel kind of indifferent to everything. It truly alters your thoughts and mind. I needed to hear that- it forced me out of the "fog" that I was in.
Mom went with me to the Doctor one week after surgery. It was time for my first shot of Lupron. It is a shot that lasts for 3 months. I would have to come back at that time and get one more. He also prescribed me "add-back therapy" which is Activella, a low dose estrogen/ progestrone pill. It is supposed to help the hot flashes and night sweats.
Lupron is supposed to burn off any remaining Endo and hopefully keep it at bay so that we can start trying to concieve again. If you are reading this and are on this same road, whatever you do- DO NOT read the internet! There are HORRIBLE things on there that will not help you with this. That is exactly what I did- I read what all of these people posted about the drug- most of it false info that just got me worried- I have been in a constant prayer for the Lord to take away FEAR!
It really hasn't been so bad. I do have the occasional hot flash and I have night sweats every once in a while. I do have bad headaches and can't sleep very well, but besides that, I feel it is truly doing the trick.
